Agency reviews and comments

Response
Meryl did a great job of finding the perfect surrogate for my needs.
The surrogacy agency recommended 6 surrogates before recommending the surrogate that eventually carried our twins. The first 6 potential surrogates were rejected by either the psychologist or the IVF center because they were not qualified. We had to endure the emotional and financial stress. The surrogate who carried our children failed to follow doctor's recommendations resulting in three incidences of pre-term labor finally delivering our twins at 32 weeks. She lied about her medical history to the surrogacy agency and it was only identified when the pregnancy with our twins was so eventful.
Speak with parents who have been through the entire process before you start, lots of decisions/choices to get in front of - like how to write contracts that you as parents care about, that agencies may not advise.
Meryl came highly recommended by another gay couple (whom she helped become parents) and she often went above and beyond expectations when she could easily have done less. We had the same experience during the process for our second child and subsequent second parent adoption proceedings. Meryl is a real class act and I highly recommend her.
Meryl and Julie picked the perfect surrogate for us. If I put aside all my own personal issues, the surrogate journey itself was perfect. I couldn't have ask for a better surrogate and truly appreciate all the support from Meryl and Julie. I hope to do it again.
Our surrogate was absolutely wonderful. The background checks promised for any surrogacy candidate were not done as explained when signing on with ART, but fortunately it did not matter in our instance. ART is also supposed to act as counsel to the intended parents and failed to adequately do so. The main focus of this agency is matching and making sure the match goes through. Further, once a potential surrogate was identified there was an obvious shift in focus to make sure she was happy even though we were the clients. We found this fact as well as the lack of adequate legal advice very frustrating, given what an emotional and stressful time this was for us. Once we signed the contract we had minimal contact with the agency. To reiterate, the match was excellent so we feel this was ART's stronger skill.
We found ART Parenting to be excellent at every stage of the process and to be knowledgable, professional, empathetic, and effective communicators. We feel like we were dealing with a top tier organization and were made to feel like valued partners throughout the process.
Meryl and her assistant Julie supported us through the process, and made an excellent match with a young woman who lived about 3 hours away. ART Parenting cost is somewhat lower than the other agencies in this area. They work on minimal overhead and do not do as much hand-holding. Once you get matched they let you take it from there with the surrogate. They only get involved when issues arise. For example, our surrogate had a period of time when switching jobs where she was not covered by health insurance. And one of the screening tests came back with a higher probability of Downs Syndrome (fortunately a false alarm). In both cases, Meryl had to get involved in the conversation and work things out. Our final cost was under $70k because we already had frozen embryos to work with.
We have had no difficulties. The agency gave a good price, and included the law services, which saved a lot of money. One woman show, but she was available all the time. We didn't meet any difficulties of any kind.
ART Parenting owned by the lawyer Meryl Rosenberg went above and beyond our expectations. When there was a miscommunication along the way, Meryl Rosenberg made sure that it was cleared up and kept everyone happy. What I most liked about this agency is that I felt like they got to know us personally and Meryl was always available to help as needed.
Meryl was great to work with, very responsive and knowledgeable about the legal and contractural terrain. The only thing we wish had been done differently was better background of the surrogate's employment history and HR benefits as it pertains to insurance info, paid maternity leave, work requirements, etc.
The helpfulness and time to find a surrogate match was excellent. We ran into some issues at the birth in which our paperwork was not acknowledged by the hospital administration. We also had delays in the state acknowledging us as legal parents which delayed the birth certificate process. Four months later, we are still dealing guidance for obtaining our child's social security card. The helpfulness and timeliness on these items have been less than satisfactory.
Meryl did an amazing job helping us choose a surrogate that had experience. She was an incredible, loving person that Meryl had worked with before. She is a pro and a leader in the field. As a lawyer, she brings the whole package to the experience. She was present, not overbearing, but always available when we needed her. Highly recommend
